Ayodhya — The Birthplace of Lord Rama
Arrive in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. Visit the grand Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir, Hanuman Garhi, Kanak Bhawan, and the sacred Saryu River. Attend the evening Saryu Aarti where thousands of diyas float on the river — a sight that embodies devotion itself. Explore Nageshwarnath Temple and the historic ghats. Best time: October–March. Ayodhya is well-connected by train from Delhi, Lucknow, and Varanasi.

Cross into Nepal — Janakpur, Sita's Kingdom
Travel to the India-Nepal border at Jayanagar/Sitamarhi or Birgunj/Raxaul. Complete border formalities — Indian citizens can cross with voter ID/Aadhaar; foreign nationals need valid Nepal visa (visa on arrival available at major border points for most nationalities). Continue to Janakpur Dham, the birthplace of Goddess Sita. Visit the magnificent Janaki Mandir (built in 1911 in mixed Mughal-Rajput style), Ram-Janaki Vivah Mandap marking the sacred marriage site, and Dhanush Sagar pond. Evening: participate in Mithila folk cultural programs. Border crossing: 2–3 hours including formalities.

Janakpur Sacred Exploration
Spend a full day in Janakpur. Visit the historic Janaki Temple at dawn for the mangala aarti, explore the Dhanusha Sagar and Ganga Sagar ponds mentioned in the Ramayana, and walk through the ancient city's Mithila-painted lanes. If visiting during Vivah Panchami (November-December), witness the grand re-enactment of the Ram-Sita wedding that draws pilgrims from both countries. The Janakpur-Jayanagar railway — Nepal's only broad-gauge cross-border line — offers a scenic return option.

Chitrakoot — The Forest Abode
Return to India and travel to Chitrakoot, Madhya Pradesh — the place where Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana spent 11 of their 14 exile years. Visit Ram Ghat on the Mandakini River for the evening aarti, explore Gupt Godavari caves, Sati Anusuya Ashram, and Bharat Milap temple. Take a boat ride on the Mandakini as the setting sun paints the Vindhya hills gold. Chitrakoot embodies the ideal of dignified exile — a forest kingdom that became home to divine love.
