Day-by-day itinerary

1. D1

   Flight to Taplejung and drive to trailhead

   Fly to Bhadrapur and drive to Taplejung, or fly to Suketar airstrip. Drive to Kafle Pati, the trailhead. The drive passes through terraced hills, cardamom forests, and Limbu villages. Begin the trek through rhododendron forest with mountain views opening progressively. Stay overnight at a teahouse en route.

2. D2

   Trek to Pathibhara and goddess darshan

   Hike 3-4 hours through prayer-flag-lined trails to the hilltop temple. The views expand to reveal Kanchenjunga, the world's third-highest peak, and Jannu Himal. Enter the small pagoda temple for darshan of the goddess, draped in red cloth and adorned with traditional jewelry. Make your sincere wish and participate in the puja. The wind carries prayer flags fluttering against the mountain backdrop.

3. D3

   Sawa Waterfall and descent

   After morning meditation at the summit, visit Sawa Waterfall and Timbung Pond nearby. Begin the descent through the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area, home to red panda and rare Himalayan birds. If time permits, visit the ancient monasteries at Olangchung Gola. Return to Taplejung and onward to Kathmandu, carrying the goddess's blessing.
