Day-by-day itinerary

1. D1

   Day 1: Boudhanath & Living Monastic Tradition

   Morning circumambulation of Boudhanath Stupa with a Newar Buddhist scholar. Afternoon visit to a traditional Sakya/Bajracharya baha in Kathmandu to observe daily rituals, prayer wheel ceremonies, and learn about the caste-based sangha structure. Evening meditation session at a monastery guesthouse.

2. D2

   Day 2: Homa Rituals & Initiation Insights

   Attend an exoteric charu ahuti homa performed by Bajracharya priests at a baha courtyard, understanding the symbolism of Agni, grain offerings, and protective tikka. Visit the Asha Archives or a private manuscript collection to view centuries-old tantric texts (Guhyasamaja, Hevajra Tantra). Optional: observe preparation for a young initiate’s pravrajya ordination.

3. D3

   Day 3: Swayambhunath & Tantric Synthesis

   Sunrise climb to Swayambhunath to learn the origin myth of the Kathmandu Valley as a sacred lotus emanating from a primordial lake. Explore the Vajrayogini shrine and understand how Hindu-Buddhist syncretism shapes Newar tantra. Closing discussion on how these traditions survive in modern Nepal.
