Day-by-day itinerary

1. D1

   Arrival & Akhara Orientation

   Arrive in Prayagraj and transfer to a tented camp on the Kumbh grounds. Visit the Juna Akhara — the oldest monastic order — to understand the hierarchy of sadhus, from Naga babas (naked ascetics with matted hair) to Bairagis (Vaishnava ascetics). Evening Ganga aarti at the sangam.

2. D2

   Shahi Snan: The Royal Bath

   Rise before dawn for the main bathing day (Shahi Snan). Witness the procession of Naga sadhus — thousands of naked ascetics riding elephants and horses, carrying tridents and swords — as they lead the bathing order. After their bath, join the general pilgrimage in the sacred waters. Your guide explains the astrological timing and the purification rituals.

3. D3

   Sadhu Encounters & Spiritual Discourse

   Spend a day meeting different types of ascetics: a Naga baba who has held his arm raised for twenty years, a Tibetan lama who has walked from Lhasa, a female ascetic (sadhvi) who renounced a corporate career. Attend a spiritual discourse (satsang) on the banks of the Ganges. Evening visit to a fire ceremony (havan) in a guru's camp.

4. D4

   Kumbh at Night: The City of Tents

   Experience the Kumbh after dark, when the temporary city of tents becomes a wonderland of light and sound. Visit the massive community kitchens (bhandaras) serving free meals to thousands. Listen to devotional singing (kirtan) and the hypnotic rhythms of tabla and harmonium. Sleep in your tent lulled by the distant sound of conch shells.

5. D5

   Departure with Blessings

   Morning yoga session on the riverbank as the sun rises over the sangam. Receive prasad and blessings from a sadhu. Final walk through the akharas before they pack their flags and tridents for the next Kumbh, twelve years away. Transfer to the airport.
