Day-by-day itinerary

  1. D1

    Arrival & Evening Palki Ceremony

Arrive in Amritsar and check into accommodation near the Golden Temple complex. Enter through any of the four gates, cover your head (scarves available free), and walk barefoot around the marble parikrama (circumambulation path). At 9:30 PM, witness the Palki Sahib ceremony — the holy book Guru Granth Sahib is carried in a golden palanquin from the temple to its night resting chamber, accompanied by hymns, bugles, and flower petals. The atmosphere is electric with devotion. Cultural tip: All visitors must cover their heads and remove shoes; wash your feet before entering.

  2. D2

    Golden Temple Darshan & Seva

Rise at 4:00 AM for the Prakash ceremony — the Guru Granth Sahib is brought from the Akal Takht to the sanctum with Vedic chants. Take a dip in the Amrit Sarovar — the sacred pool whose waters are believed to heal. Enter the inner sanctum and receive Karah Prasad (sweet semolina blessed offering). Then participate in Seva (selfless service) at the Langar — help roll chapatis, wash dishes, or serve food alongside volunteers from around the world. Visit the Jallianwala Bagh memorial adjacent to the temple to understand India's freedom struggle. Evening: Walk to the Wagah Border (30km) for the dramatic India-Pakistan border closing ceremony.

  3. D3

    Gobindgarh Fort & Departure

Visit Gobindgarh Fort, a historic Sikh fort with museums, live performances, and the replica of the Kohinoor diamond. Shop for Phulkari embroidery, Punjabi juttis (shoes), and Amritsari papad-wadiyan at the Hall Bazaar. Before departure, take one final walk around the Golden Temple parikrama — the golden reflection in the morning light is a sight that stays with you forever. Carry home Karah Prasad and memories of seva.
