Day-by-day itinerary

1. D1

   Kathmandu to Lukla flight and Namche Bazaar

   Take the spectacular mountain flight to Lukla's Tenzing-Hillary Airport. Trek through pine forests to Phakding, then follow the Dudh Koshi River to Namche Bazaar, the Sherpa capital. Acclimatize with a hike to the Everest View Hotel for your first glimpse of the peak. Stay in comfortable teahouses.

2. D2

   Tengboche monastery and Dingboche

   Trek to Tengboche Monastery, the spiritual heart of the Khumbu, with Ama Dablam as a dramatic backdrop. Attend morning prayers with resident monks. Continue to Dingboche, walking above the treeline into the high alpine zone. The air thins, and prayer flags flutter against a stark, magnificent landscape.

3. D3

   Lobuche, Gorak Shep, and Everest Base Camp

   Trek to Gorak Shep, the last settlement before Base Camp. Drop your bags and continue to Everest Base Camp, walking on the Khumbu Glacier's moraine. Stand at the foot of the world's highest mountain and the dramatic Khumbu Icefall. Return to Gorak Shep, then hike Kala Patthar (5,545m) at dawn for the finest view of Everest.

4. D4

   Helicopter return to Kathmandu

   Board a helicopter at Gorak Shep for a spectacular flight back to Lukla or Kathmandu, soaring over the Himalayan range. From the air, appreciate the full scale of the landscape you walked through: glaciers, icefalls, and peaks stretching to the horizon. Arrive in Kathmandu for a hot shower and a celebratory farewell dinner.
