Day-by-day itinerary

  1. D1

    Haridwar to Joshimath

Depart Haridwar and drive to Joshimath (1,890m), the winter seat of Badrinath. En route, visit Devprayag — the sacred confluence of Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers forming the Ganga. Visit the Narasimha Temple at Joshimath, where the left arm of the deity is believed to be getting thinner — legend says that when it falls, the mountains will block the path to Badrinath. Evening: Attend a discourse on Vishnu's Dashavatar at an ashram.

  2. D2

    Joshimath to Badrinath & Darshan

Drive through scenic mountain roads to Badrinath (3,133m). Check into accommodation and acclimatize. Visit Tapt Kund — natural hot sulphur springs near the temple where pilgrims take a purifying dip before darshan. Enter through the ornate Singh Dwar (Lion Gate) and see the black stone idol of Lord Badrinarayan, seated in padmasana, adorned with gold ornaments and a diamond-studded crown. Evening Aarti at 6:30 PM with traditional Badri-Kedar temple music.

  3. D3

    Mana Village & Vyas Cave

Visit Mana Village (3km from Badrinath), the last inhabited village before the Tibetan border. See Vyas Gufa (Vyas Cave) where Sage Vyasa is believed to have composed the Mahabharata. Visit Ganesh Gufa where Lord Ganesha is said to have acted as Vyasa's scribe. Walk to the Bhim Pul — a massive natural rock bridge over the Saraswati River. Purchase locally made woolen items from Bhotia artisans.

    Return to Haridwar

Drive back via Rudraprayag, stopping at the five sacred Prayags (river confluences). At each point, collect a small vial of river water. Arrive in Haridwar by evening.
