Day-by-day itinerary

1. D1

   Arrival at Srinagar & Pahalgam

   Arrive at Srinagar and drive to Pahalgam (2,130m), the traditional starting point. Visit the ancient Mamleshwar Temple where Nandi was left behind. Collect medical fitness certificates and register with the Shrine Board. Evening briefing on altitude acclimatization and safety protocols. Preparation: This is a high-altitude trek — carry heavy woolens, a sleeping bag rated to -10 degrees C, and Diamox for altitude sickness prevention.

2. D2

   Pahalgam to Chandanwari to Sheshnag

   Drive to Chandanwari (2,895m) and begin the 16km trek to Sheshnag Lake (3,574m). Cross Pissu Top, believed to be a mountain of demons destroyed by the gods. The trail offers stunning views of alpine meadows and snowfields. Camp overnight at Sheshnag, named after the serpent on which Vishnu rests. The green glacial lake reflects surrounding peaks in surreal beauty.

3. D3

   Sheshnag to Amarnath Cave Darshan

   Trek 14km to Panchtarni (3,657m) and then to the Holy Cave (3,888m). At the cave, witness the majestic ice Shiva Lingam — a natural formation that can reach over 6 feet in height at full moon. Also see the smaller ice formations of Parvati and Ganesha. Offer prayers and prasad of dry coconut. The freezing air, echoing chants of 'Bam Bam Bhole,' and the ethereal ice formations create an unforgettable spiritual experience. Return to Panchtarni for overnight camping.

4. D4

   Return Trek to Pahalgam

   Trek back via Baltal route (shorter but steeper) or return via the same Pahalgam route. En route, stop at Mahagunas Parvat where Ganesha was stationed, and at the confluence of five streams at Panchtarni. Reach Pahalgam by evening and rest at a comfortable hotel.

5. D5

   Srinagar Sightseeing & Departure

   Drive back to Srinagar via the saffron fields of Pampore. Visit the Shankaracharya Temple on a hilltop overlooking Dal Lake. Enjoy a shikara ride on the lake's lotus-covered waters. Purchase Kashmiri handicrafts and walnuts before departure. Carry home holy water from Sheshnag and blessed prasad from the cave.
